Murabitun Movement

Q: Please could I have a view and opinion on the Murabitun movement?

A. The Murabitun is a sect that claims to belong to the Shadhili/Qaadiri spiritual order, yet the activities and beliefs of this sect do not conform to the true Qaadiri Soofies, as is mentioned further on.

This group was founded by one Abdul-Qaadir “soofi” a man of Scottish origin who converted to Islam and set up base in Morocco, which is where the adherents of this sect are predominantly found.

They are Maliki in Math-hab.

The Murabitun believe in the establishment of the “khilafat” and declare non-Muslim countries as Darul-Harb or War Territory. This gives them a free licence to rob and pillage the belongings of the Kuffaar. This is contrary to true Islamic belief and was never the view of the pious predecessors.

They believe in the hadhara, or a form of zhikr in which they twirl, dance, and whirl. In this gathering men and woman intermingle. Some women are not even properly clad. The senior people in this group trim their beards to less than the fist length, another act that is totally Haraam.

The above is all we know about the Murabitun, but is enough to make one realise that this is one of the many deviant sects that are outside the fold of the Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jama’ah, though they are still Muslims. The activities mentioned above are contrary to Shari'ah.
