Q: 1. Is it permissible to give away the entire Qurbani animal in charity (to the poor of the community) after slaughtering and cleaning the animal?
2. Is it permissible to send money to other areas for Qurbaani to do there? Comment on the individual reasons/intentions stated below and the permissibility of each reasoning:
a. Poor and tradegy afflicted areas
b. Cheaper cattle elsewhere as compared to home country and will allow the individual to perform qurbani
c. Ease and Convenience
d. If a sheep costs R1200 locally, overseas 4-5 sheep can be done. This meat distributed will be more and hence more reward.
A:
Yes, you may distribute all the meat to the poor in your community. All the reasons mentioned are valid. However, for those who can afford it, it is best to make qurbani of an animal that costs more, provided the price is not exorbitant and the meat one gets is worth the extra costs. A qurbani that has more meat is much more meritorious regardless of the price. Furthermore, one should do at least one or two local qurbanis to keep up the sunnah of Rasoolullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), otherwise future generations might lose this important tradition of Islam. Islam teaches that charity begins at home; hence our first qurbanis should always be done locally.
And Allah knows best
