Q: I would like to know if the following hadith also applies to ladies:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (Radi-Allahu ‘anhu): The Prophet (Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “Ghusl (taking a bath) on Friday is compulsory for every Muslim reaching the age of puberty.” Bukhari Vol. 1 : No. 817
A: According to the Hanafi jurist Imam Abu Yusuf (Rahmatullaahi Alayh), the bath is Sunnah for those on whom Jumu’ah is compulsory and Jumu’ah is not compulsory on females. Thus the bath on a Friday is not a Sunnah for a female. (Tabyeenul Haqaa’iq V1 P75).
