Q: Is Rania a Muslim name for a baby girl and is it permissible to name my daughter Rania?
My question may be a bit late as I have named my daughter Rania. I found it on a Islamic site. The meaning of the name is woman who is content with what she has. That was the Arabic meaning. My in-laws say they have never heard of this name and want me to change my daughter`s name. She is now 6 months old.
A: Your query refers. It is never too late. The name Rania does not mean one who is content. Instead it means one who looks fixedly at something, or stares for long. The Arabic word for content is Qaanita. You can keep the name Rania if you feel changing it will be a problem, or you can opt for another suitable name.
