Hadith on Openly Speaking about Sin

Q: Is there any hadith something like this: “All my people are entitled to forgiveness, except those who commit sin openly”? Can you give me reference and explaination about this hadith?

A. A Hadeeth in Bukhaari narrated by Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallaahu Anhu) states: Every member of my Ummah is forgiven except those who openly speak about their sins… (Bukhaari V4 P239).

This Hadeeth further mentions that a person commits a sin at night and Allah hides it, but in the morning the person speaks and boasts about the sin he committed at night. Allah becomes angry on such a person. On the other hand, a person who is ashamed of his transgression against Allah Ta’aala and because of shame also hides it from the people, then Allah favours him by keeping that sin hidden.

A person who sins and speaks about it is devoid of shame. This also implies that either he does not consider it to be a sin or thinks lightly of it. Thus, the wrath and anger of Allah descends upon such a person.

May Allah Ta’aala save and protect us from His wrath, Aameen.
