Q: Currently I am working for a private financial company/bank as an IT technician (working with Computer Support). I am currently 3 years with this company. The salary is average. So I am applying for other jobs in my IT field for a better salary. Note: I am married with two children, we live on our own and I only work to provide income for my family. We just make it to pay our expenses monthly without any help from any one and we live a average lifestyle.
Now a job offer come to me with double the gross salary of what I am getting now. It still involves IT Support, (Repairing, Upgrading and user Computer Support) which is in the same field that I am currently doing but this company is an Online Gaming Monitoring Company. Am I allowed to accept the new job offer?
A. To apply for a job that pays better than the current job is permissible and there is no harm in doing so. However, you have to ensure that the income is Halaal and that in the course of your service you are not aiding any Haraam activity, directly or indirectly. Working for a gaming company will not be permissible because it will be aiding a major Haraam, and that is gambling. Persevere in your present job until Allah Ta'aala through His Grace, opens up a Halaal avenue for you. As stated earlier, you may make effort to land yourself a better job provided it is Halaal.
May Allah grant you blessings in your income and grant you contentment, Aameen
