Q: Should we condemn the recent killing of a Shiah Imam in Ottawa? Or what should be our attitude?
A: In this country of South Africa killings are, sadly, the order of the day. We seek Allah’s protection from such violence and anarchy. We condemn all wanton destruction of human life and property, making no distinction between Muslim or non-Muslim. We don’t condemn one crime to the exclusion of so many other atrocities. But, to single out this incident for special and pretentious condolence raises a number of concerns with regards to motive and cause. In matters of this nature our attitude should be one of caution. Allah Ta’ala alone knows the reality and motive behind this episode.
